MALE VOICE 1: The trial lawyers at Williamson Petty LC go to work every day, fully aware of the trust their clients have placed in them. MR. TOM WILLIAMSON: It's a sacred trust. You are the only hope for many of the clients that we represent. And we can't let them down. MALE VOICE 1: This firm represents the victims of medical malpractice, defective products, nursing home and assisted living abuse, auto and trucking accidents, and other serious injury cases in Richmond, and throughout the state of Virginia. MR. JOSHUA D. SILVERMAN: We help people who are rich. We help people who are poor. People come to us because something bad has happened. MR. JONATHAN M. PETTY: One of the things that is different about our firm is that we usually take only a small number of complicated cases, rather than doing a big volume practice. By taking a small number of big and complicated cases, it allows us to focus our time, and to spend the time and the resources that are necessary to devote to those cases. MS. CAROLYN LAVECCHIA: We turn down far more cases than we pursue. We select those cases that are strong cases, on the merits, and to where there is a significant injury. We do not-- and I emphasize-- we do not take a case where we think, oh, well we'll get this. It will probably settle. MR. SILVERMAN: The best settlements will come from being ready for trial. If you take a case with the expectation of settlement, what you find is you'll go to trial unprepared. MALE VOICE 1: Being prepared to go to court can take time; lots of time. That's something that other firms who take any case they can get often don't have. MR. WILLIAMSON: Without time, no matter how brilliant a lawyer it is, no matter how much charm or charisma they might have, they're never going to do the footwork, and the thinking work that's required to put your case in the best posture, and to do get you the best possible result. MALE VOICE 1: Each attorney here has years of experience, and has been highly successful in their respective areas of expertise. MR. PETTY: Each of the lawyers up here brings a little something different to the table. We're a well-rounded group. We've got a lawyer who devotes his practice to nursing home cases, and has a particular interest in elder abuse, and things that happen to our seniors. MR. SILVERMAN: Another lawyer here is a former President of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. MR. PETTY: We've got a lawyer who started her professional career as a nurse, and a nurse practitioner, who worked in a cardiac lab. And myself, I've got the experience of having worked for the defense for 10 years. I was getting good results, and winning cases, but I often felt that maybe I was getting results for the wrong side. MALE VOICE 1: Each attorney at Williamson Petty LC is critically acclaimed. In fact, three lawyers here have been selected by Virginia Super Lawyers as the top medical malpractice lawyers in the state. But each will tell you that, while the recognition is appreciated, the real reward comes when they obtain justice for their clients. MS. LAVECCHIA: It's a wonderful feeling, whatever we do, that helps a client that makes a difference in his or her life. MR. WILLIAMSON: I appreciate the recognition, and I view it as a challenge, to work as hard as I have in the past, so in the future, my clients will say, "Now I know why he was picked the number one lawyer."
