Jonathan M. Petty
(804) 288-1661
Jonathan Petty is a graduate of Duke University and Emory University School of Law. He joined Williamson Petty as a partner in January 2006. He is licensed to practice law in Virginia and Georgia. Over the course of his career, he has successfully tried medical malpractice and personal injury cases on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants in State and Federal courts across the country.
Jonathan's abilities in the courtroom have been recognized by his peers. He is an "AV®" rated lawyer. This is the highest peer review rating bestowed by the Martindale-Hubbell listing service. An "AV" rating identifies a lawyer with very high to preeminent legal ability and very high ethical standards as established by confidential opinions from other lawyers and judges.
In 2007, Jonathan was included as one of only six "Virginia Rising Stars" in the publication Virginia Super Lawyers (Rising Stars) and Richmond Magazine for his skills in handling medical malpractice cases. The lawyers selected for inclusion in this prestigious list were nominated and selected as the best up-and-coming lawyers in their practice areas aged 40 years and younger. Only 2.5% of the total lawyers in Virginia are listed in Rising Stars. Following this honor, Jonathan was included in the 2008 editions of Virginia Super Lawyers and Richmond Magazine as among the top 5% of lawyers handling malpractice cases on behalf of plaintiffs.
In addition to his busy trial practice, Jonathan spends much of his professional time lobbying the Virginia General Assembly on behalf of the injured, particularly victims of medical negligence. He also frequently lectures to lawyers, law students and doctors on topics related to medical malpractice litigation.
Jonathan lives in Richmond's Ginter Park neighborhood with his wife, Sydney, and their two young children, Eli and Sydney.
